As a freelance music director with formal training as a conductor and teacher, I believe that every rehearsal room is also a classroom. It doesn't matter whether the performers are children, adults, novices, or professional musicians. Nor it is important whether we find ourselves in an auditorium, a classroom, a stage, a basement, or a stadium. When I direct, I am a teacher as well; and I bring the same enthusiasm and professionalism no matter the situation.
One of the highest compliments I have been paid, as a director, is that I draw things out of performers that they didn't know they had in them. I can't ask for any more than that!
