Tim Shaffer is a graduate of Kent State University, with a BS in music, a minor in education, and additional studies in Business Management. Based in northeast Ohio, he is a freelance conductor, composer, and trumpet player who performs as a soloist or ensemble player for theaters, churches, bands, weddings, orchestras, and other groups and venues throughout the region. He has taught public school music in Ohio and Texas, and has been the music director for a number of community theater productions. He has scored music for radio ads and film shorts, and has written a full-length musical comedy. A second musical is currently in development, with collaborator Dustin Oliver.
"I have been playing trumpet for over 35 years, in different styles, venues, and locations. I have played millions of notes--often even the right ones! From Classical to rock to jazz; in churches, theaters, and concert halls; in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. . . the trumpet has been a part of me all these years."
"As a music director, educator, and conductor for three decades, I have worked with hundreds of musicians at all levels, child and adult alike. In the school music room, on the marching band field, on stage, or in the orchestra pit, each experience brings its own challenges, excitement, and joy."
"When composing music for a film, I seek to enhance what the filmmaker is trying to convey. When creating my own original music or script, I hold the reigns—and I prefer to go right for the comedy. The only thing better than laughing is making someone else laugh, and that is my goal: to get the nutty ideas in my mind down on paper so that others can recreate them. . . and laugh."
